Vinyl fencing that looks new after ten winters.
If the appeal of a fence for you is that it stays looking sharp with no sanding, no staining and no annual weekend lost to maintenance, vinyl is the honest answer. Modern PVC is a very different product from the brittle, yellowing panels of twenty years ago.
Why vinyl holds up here
Quality vinyl fencing is co-extruded, meaning the outer layer carries the UV inhibitors and titanium dioxide that keep it from chalking and yellowing, while the inner layer carries the strength. It does not rot, it does not need painting, insects have no interest in it, and road salt does not touch it.
It also cleans up with a hose and a soft brush. After a decade a vinyl fence generally looks the way it did the week it went in, which is not something wood can claim.
Styles and colours
- Full privacy — tongue-and-groove panels with a cap rail, typically 6ft, for back yards and pool enclosures.
- Semi-privacy — spaced or lattice-topped panels that screen the view while letting light and air through.
- Picket — open front-yard fencing in classic or contemporary picket profiles.
- Ranch rail — two, three or four rail post-and-rail for paddocks, long boundaries and driveway edges.
White remains the most popular finish, with tan, khaki and grey available, plus woodgrain-textured options for anyone who wants the look of stained timber without the upkeep.
Installation matters more than the panel
Vinyl is only as good as what holds it up. Posts still need to go below the frost line, and on exposed runs or taller privacy fences we use reinforced posts because a solid 6ft vinyl panel catches wind like a sail.
We also leave the correct expansion allowance at the rails. PVC moves measurably between a January morning and a July afternoon, and a fence built tight in the cold will buckle in the heat.

Does vinyl fencing crack in the cold?
Good vinyl does not. Cheap, thin, single-extruded vinyl can become brittle in deep cold. We install heavier-wall co-extruded product rated for northern climates, which is the difference between a fence that survives an ice storm and one that shatters.
Is vinyl more expensive than wood?
Usually a little more up front, and usually less over the life of the fence, because there is no staining, no sealing and no board replacement. If you are staying in the house long-term, vinyl often works out cheaper overall.
Can vinyl fencing be repaired if a panel is damaged?
Yes — that is one of its advantages. Individual panels, rails or pickets can be swapped out without disturbing the rest of the run, provided the profile is still available. We keep this in mind when specifying.
Will it go yellow?
Quality co-extruded vinyl with proper UV inhibitors holds its colour for decades. Yellowing is a hallmark of budget product, which is exactly why we do not install it.
