03 Ornamental Aluminum
Ornamental aluminum, with the strength of steel.
When you want to define a boundary without losing the view — around a pool, a garden, a front lawn or a driveway — ornamental aluminum gives you the elegance of traditional wrought iron with none of the rust and none of the upkeep.

Why aluminum rather than iron
Wrought iron is beautiful and it rusts. In a climate with road salt, snowmelt and 200 freeze–thaw cycles a year, that is a maintenance commitment most homeowners regret making.
Ornamental aluminum gives you the same slim vertical picket, the same finials, the same architectural presence — in a material that simply cannot rust. The powder-coat finish is baked on rather than painted, so it does not flake, and most systems carry a lifetime finish warranty.
Pool fencing and Massachusetts code
Aluminum is the default choice for pool enclosures, and pool barriers are one of the few areas of fencing where the rules are not negotiable. Massachusetts requires a barrier of at least four feet with restricted gaps, and gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch positioned out of a small child’s reach and swinging away from the pool.
We build to that standard as a matter of course and will tell you plainly if what you are asking for will not pass inspection. It is far cheaper to hear that at the estimate than after the install.
Styles, heights and grades
- Flat top — clean and contemporary, with no protruding pickets.
- Spear or finial top — the traditional ornamental profile, formal and deterrent.
- Puppy picket — additional close-spaced pickets on the bottom rail to contain small dogs.
- Flush bottom or extended picket — depending on whether you want the fence to sit on the grade or bite into it.
Heights typically run 4ft, 4.5ft, 5ft and 6ft. Residential, heavy residential and commercial grades differ in wall thickness and picket spacing — we specify based on what the fence actually has to do, not on what is cheapest to buy.
Questions
Aluminum Fence questions we get asked.
Will an aluminum fence follow my sloping yard?
Yes. Ornamental aluminum is rackable, meaning the panel pivots at the picket-to-rail connection and follows the grade smoothly without stepping. On steep ground we can also step the panels for a more formal look.
Does the black finish fade?
Powder coating is electrostatically applied and oven-cured rather than brushed on, so it bonds to the metal rather than sitting on top of it. Most systems carry a lifetime finish warranty against chipping, peeling and fading.
Is aluminum strong enough to be secure?
Modern ornamental aluminum uses structural alloys and internal reinforcement. For higher-security or commercial applications we specify heavier grades with thicker walls and closer picket spacing.
Can I get a matching gate?
Yes, and it should match. We build walk gates and double drive gates in the same profile and finish, with self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware where pool code requires it.
